I don't recall exactly when I saw the first appearance. Maybe two years ago. But the ones I really noticed were females, larger than the males. Kinda scary looking, but relatively harmless to us humans. Their bites are kinda equated to a bee sting. But, like bees, you don't make a move on them, and they won't need to be defensive. Even though entomologists handle them, I won't be following suit.
Joros help suppress mosquitoes and biting flies, and are one of the few spiders that will catch and eat brown marmorated stink bugs, which are serious pests to many crops.
All three of the above make me a fan of the Joro. Our youngest granddaughter marvels at them, but remains cautious. At 4 years old, she has a healthy no kill policy...most of the time. She admires most insects from a distance, and rightfully so. We've read books on insects and animals to her since before she could talk, or comprehend what we were saying. And there seems to be something that's a natural alarm inside of us that makes us recoil at spiders. In my own youth, walking into a web always startled me. I still get away from one quickly, wondering if the spider is on me, and if so, where is it?
It's a feeling somewhat like being close to a trump supporter, but not as creepy. Or dangerous to others. Give me a Joro any day.
Our insect population will soon disappear for the cooler months, but no such luck with what trump and his supporters have, or will continue to create. Can you imagine more years of this disconnect with reality? The division, negativity, hatred, inequality, anti-woman, lying liars that seem to multiply by the moment? The Joros cover the outside of our house & yard, but it seems like not as rapidly as s the white nationalism and bigotry that has been energized by the recklessness from the former president.
But, like the Joro, don't wish him harm. Just gone away. Like on an island. Or in prison. With his crime family. And his associates.
How did our country allow him to be in control? I'll wait.
Thank y'all for stopping by.
