A kind word & a smile. BOOM. And you immediately have my attention.
A wave, a nod, taking someone's shopping cart back as you pass them in the parking lot, reaching something on a high shelf without being asked, putting something in your mailbox for your mail carrier, being polite to a sales call solicitor, thanking your fast food employee & saying "have a good day", waving someone in line when in heavy traffic, or holding the door for the person in front or behind you... it's often the little things that prompt a change in someone's day, and you just never know where that will lead. Will that moment stick with someone? It does with me. It's my hope that it does with others as well.
Multiply those tiny acts of kindness by billions. Can we even conceive of the possible results? How about a buncha billions?
"Many a hand make light the work".
The more we think outside of ourselves in these moments and moments like them, man...I can run situations through my mind when the smallest acts have put a positive spin on an otherwise crappy day. But crappy only because I allowed something that seemed negative to me to bring me down. I've learned to displace negative things in my head with simple acts of kindness I've received. And it's worked.
Recall feel good moments. Try to cypher what stood out to make it a positive instance. Now, emulate what someone did, or remember how you felt when you offered a positive moment to someone. And in particular a stranger. Learn how to say please & thank you, ma'am & sir, yes & no, in Spanish. Use gestures if you need to. But reach out, especially when it's obvious a person is struggling to communicate. Be welcoming to our sisters and brothers, and never, ever, assume you know their backstory.
This concludes today's thoughts on simple gateways, and how you can be the star of the show. Everybody wins.
Thank you for stopping by.
