STFU

 08.20.2022

I try to control my language, and what I say here. But this is hopefully, NOT something to which we can all relate.

Our son was home from work, but gone when I got home after picking up their youngest daughter from Pre-K. She's four. Made her a snack, put on Bluey, and settled in the den. When her Dad got home, she bolted into the kitchen, "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!" I love that. I just love that kid.

She & Daddy bounce in, and she goes to the big ottoman and says, looking down at her doll, "shut the fuck up." I look at our son, we're both bug-eyed, he's quietly laughing with his hand over his mouth. I mouth "shut the fuck up?" He nods.

Our son: "Baby, that's not a nice word." I say, "We don't talk like that, honey."

"Shut the fuck up", with a smile and a giggle. Daddy calls her out one more time, and it's over. Not another peep.

Sponges, kids are. And it lasts for a while. I hope she shakes it off, but it's not likely in times like these. It wasn't for me.

"It's times like these you learn to live again                                It's times like these you give and give again                                    It's times like these you learn to love again                                    It's times like these time and time again".
