"Seems no ones talking 'bout those, crazy days gone past"
Van Halen"Little Dreamer"1978
Days begin and end with current events, memories, and sometimes, heartache. I'm so thankful for a life well lived, but I swear, haunting thoughts will probably lead to my wiggin' out. I don't always recall dreams, but when I do, they can be so vivid. Thank goodness for my daily meds.
Tonight as I was doing our cat-roundup, I saw a couple of bucks that've been stopping by on the regular. Strong, healthy looking guys. Velvet in tact, I think they're eight pointers. They may be brothers, as they're always together. So there were 4 deer total, 2 doe on the fringe. They see me & give me the nod and stare. I duck inside to get my feed container, load it up, and go for the feed bowl. They back away a bit usually not far, and by the time I get back to the deck, about 15', they are on it. But only the bucks. The fucking patriarchy, man. I know it's probably nature's way, but I've been feeding, almost by hand, these does for a while. The biggest buck faints towards a doe, and she skitters off deeper into the shadows. Both bucks clean the feed bowl & trot off. After about 10 minutes, the does return. I take more feed out, and the ladies return. The one I can almost touch raises her head to see one of the bucks return. She ain't havin' it. She rears up a little, stomps, and the buck stands up on his hind legs, front legs flailing, but she stands her ground. Atta girl. The buck & his buddy/brother trot off. Rapidly. #becausestrongwomen
It was a moment for me as a feminist, and I quietly cheered for both ladies. Their solidarity was an affirmation. Their point was made, and I got to witness it all in real life, real time. Kinda like a Pro Choice team giving a big 'FU, it's my turn now' message of accomplishment.
I never got the cats in, even 2 hours later.
I'm my own Little Dreamer, waiting patiently for the ball to drop for equality. Is all the current greed and hate part of something bigger? Like the end of days?
I think that despite our political landscape and state of affairs, we, collectively, are strong, and despite some leaders being confused, selfish, and weak, we the people shall overcome. Does this last sentence resonate with anyone?
Let's keep our head down, continue moving forward, work for legislative action geared around PEOPLE, and keep our eye on the prize.
Thank you for stopping by.
